Loox Reviews Not Showing on the Product Page: How to Fix It

Loox reviews that do not appear on a product page are almost always a setup step, not lost data. This is the order Loox’s own help centre points to: the Core Script, the widget blocks, the theme, the review’s status, then page builders and domains.

In the Shopify theme editor, open App embeds and make sure the Loox Core Script is toggled on, then add the Reviews Widget block (and the Star Rating Widget block) to the product template your product uses and save. If you recently changed theme, re-add Loox to the new theme from Preferences, General, Add Loox to your theme. If the widgets are in place, check the review is Published rather than Pending in Loox.

First, turn on the Loox Core Script

Loox widgets on Online Store 2.0 themes need the Loox Core Script, an app embed that loads Loox on your storefront. Without it, a widget block can be in the right place and show nothing. Open Online Store, Themes, click Customize on your live theme, open the App embeds panel in the sidebar, toggle on Loox Core Script and save. Loox also offers a link in its help centre that switches the embed on for you.

App embeds are stored per theme. Loox’s help centre says that if you change your live theme, you need to activate the Loox Core Script again to keep displaying your reviews.

Then add the Reviews Widget block to the product template

Installing Loox does not place its reviews on your product page. In the theme editor, select the product template, click Add section, choose Reviews Widget from the Loox apps, drag it where you want it and click Save. Loox offers six app blocks in all: Star Rating Widget, Reviews Widget, Cards Carousel Widget, Trust Badge, Snippets Widget and Video Slider Widget. You can also start from the Widgets area inside Loox, where each widget has an Add to theme button that opens the theme editor with the block ready to place.

If you do not see any Loox blocks in the theme editor, Loox’s advice is to re-integrate Loox with your theme and try again.

  1. Reviews Widget: the full list of reviews, usually lower on the page.
  2. Star Rating Widget: the stars and count, which Loox suggests placing under the product title.
  3. Both are separate blocks, so a page can have one and not the other.

Check which template the product uses

A theme can have several product templates, and each product is assigned one through the Theme template field on its admin page. If you added the Reviews Widget to Default product but the product you are looking at uses another template, that template has no widget. Open the product in your Shopify admin, check the Theme template field, and add the Loox blocks to that template as well.

Changed or duplicated your theme? Add Loox to it again

A theme change is a frequent cause of reviews vanishing overnight. Loox’s help centre says that changing your live theme requires integrating Loox with the new theme before its widgets will display. In Loox, go to Preferences, General, find Add Loox to your theme, click Select theme, choose the theme from the list and click Add Loox to your theme. The theme editor opens; click Save there to finish.

Your reviews are stored in Loox, not in the theme, so none of them is lost by a theme change. Only the placement has to be done again. The same applies when you work on a duplicate theme and later publish it: check the Core Script and the blocks on the copy before it goes live.

On a vintage theme, the widgets go in by code

Vintage themes, built before Online Store 2.0, do not support app blocks, so there is no Reviews Widget block to drag. Loox publishes a code install for each widget on vintage themes, and notes one trap: the Layout and Text settings in the Shopify theme editor apply only to Loox app blocks, not to widgets added by code. If a code-installed widget ignores your theme editor changes, that is expected. Change its appearance in Loox instead.

When pasting code yourself, keep it inside the product template, where the product object exists. Code placed elsewhere has no product to load reviews for.

The star rating is hidden on products with no reviews

By default, the Loox Star Rating Widget does not appear on a product that has no published reviews. If you are testing on a new product, that is working as designed. Loox has a customisation option, Show empty stars when there are no reviews, if you would rather show empty stars than nothing. Test the widget on a product you know has published reviews before concluding anything is broken.

The review is Pending or Unpublished

Loox reviews have three statuses: Published, Pending and Unpublished. Only Published reviews appear in widgets. Your auto-publish setting, under Collect Reviews, Preferences, Publishing reviews, decides which reviews go live straight away. Options run from All reviews to 5 stars only, plus one that holds every review for 14 days.

Under Loox’s policy, any review left Pending is published automatically 14 days after submission unless it has been rejected for a valid reason, such as profanity or spam. To find reviews still waiting, filter Manage Reviews by Status and choose Pending; each one shows its scheduled publication date.

Stars missing on collection pages

Product cards on collection pages are drawn by a different template from the product page. Loox gives two routes. On newer Shopify themes such as Horizon and Vessel, you can define Loox as your review app in the theme settings and the theme draws the stars itself on each card. On older themes, you add the Star Rating Widget snippet to the product card file, usually one named along the lines of card-product.liquid or product-card-grid.liquid, beneath the product title.

Loox also writes ratings to Shopify’s standard review metafields, which is how a theme can show Loox stars without Loox code on the card.

Using GemPages, PageFly, Shogun or Replo

Page builders do not carry your theme’s app blocks, so a product page built in one needs the Loox element added inside the builder. Loox lists GemPages, PageFly, Shogun and Zipify as integrated builders, and Replo documents its own Loox integration.

  1. GemPages: add the Loox element from the Shopify Apps list in the editor, place it inside a Product module and choose Reviews widget or Rating widget. GemPages only shows reviews that already exist in Loox.
  2. PageFly: open the page, enable Loox under Add third-party elements, pick the widget type, drag it into place, save and publish.
  3. Shogun: switch on the Loox integration under Settings, Integrations, then drag the Loox widget into a product box. Shogun allows one Loox Product Reviews widget per page.
  4. Replo: set the Loox review component to Always Shown in Loox, and place it inside a Shopify Product component. Only one Loox review component can sit on a page at a time.

Reviews show on one domain but not another

If reviews appear on your main domain but not on a country domain or a site outside Shopify, check the domains Loox is allowed to serve. In Loox, go to Settings, General, External domains and add each domain, including the www prefix. Shogun’s Loox guide gives the same instruction to stores using Shopify Markets.

Shopify’s market overrides can also hide a block for one market only. Sections added to the store default do not appear in a market that has its own custom section order, so if a market was customised before you added the Loox blocks, open the theme editor with that market selected and add them there too.

Does the free Beginner plan limit what shows?

The Loox Beginner plan is free up to 500 orders. Loox’s help centre describes the limit as total orders counted from the end of your trial, not a monthly allowance, and says that once it is reached the Beginner plan is no longer available and Loox recommends a higher plan. Loox also states that front-facing widgets and reviews stay unchanged when you upgrade.

One limit is worth knowing when something seems missing: video reviews are not part of the Beginner plan. On the Shopify App Store today, video reviews appear under the Convert plan at $49.99 a month, with 300 orders included. If photos show but videos never do, that is a plan feature rather than a display fault.

When to contact Loox

If the Core Script is on, the blocks are on the right template of the live theme, the review is Published and the widget still does not appear, contact Loox support. They can see the integration from their side and check the script setup on your store, which you cannot. Loox is a dependable app with good galleries and a well-documented setup, and most of these cases end with a setting rather than a fault.

If you are weighing a move instead

Some merchants reach this page after the third time a theme change hid their reviews, and start asking whether a different setup would avoid it. Loox, like most review apps, loads reviews with a script that runs in the shopper’s browser after the page arrives, which is why the embed and the blocks matter so much.

BeyondReviews writes your reviews and replies into the product page’s own HTML, so they arrive with the page, and Google and AI answer engines can read them. Then it puts them to work: it counts the phrases your customers repeat, drafts a reply to every review in your voice, and prints the phrases you approve into the page. Importing your Loox reviews is part of setup and they count toward your rating from day one; keeping your Google stars through the move is treated as our problem, not yours. It is free up to 100 orders a month, with photo and video reviews included. If you move, run the export while your Loox account is active, because the photos are a separate job with a deadline.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my Loox reviews not showing on my product page?

The usual causes are the Loox Core Script app embed being off, the Reviews Widget block not being added to the product template the product uses, or a recent theme change. Turn on the Core Script under App embeds, add the block, and save. If both are in place, check the review is Published rather than Pending in Loox.

My Loox reviews disappeared after I changed theme. How do I get them back?

Your reviews are still in Loox. In Loox, go to Preferences, General, Add Loox to your theme, select the new theme and click Add Loox to your theme, then save in the theme editor. Make sure the Loox Core Script is toggled on for the new theme as well.

Why is the Loox star rating not showing?

The Star Rating Widget is a separate block from the Reviews Widget, so it needs adding on its own, usually under the product title. By default it is hidden on products with no published reviews; turn on Show empty stars when there are no reviews if you want it visible anyway.

Why are my Loox video reviews not showing?

Video reviews are not part of the free Beginner plan. On the Shopify App Store they appear under the Convert plan, at $49.99 a month with 300 orders included. Photo reviews are available on the Beginner plan.

How do I show Loox reviews on a GemPages or PageFly page?

Add the Loox element inside the builder rather than through the theme editor. In GemPages, place the Loox element inside a Product module; in PageFly, enable Loox under Add third-party elements, then drag the widget into place and publish.
